chamfer_maker_R15_rc1

I recently updated the popular Chamfer Maker plugin so it works with CINEMA 4D R15.

You can download the plugin at the end of this post.
The ZIP file includes pre-compiled plugins for CINEMA 4D versions R12 through R15.

There are a few changes to the old version but that is best explained in a video.

You can find the source code for the plugin on github.

Updated: 2013-10-03
Revision 2 (r2) adds support for live edge selection from a correction deformer that is put under the modified object.

    Hi Andre!

I have been using Chamfer Maker for a long time. But after updating to R15 version, I found it crash evey time (even in a blank scene) when I click it in plugins menu. It does’t response and I have to call out task manager to shutdown C4D.

I tried everything but all useless. I’d be truly grateful if you would help me out.

Hi Alex, are you using the latest C4D R15 update? I had one user that also had the same problem but before I could actually ask him questions about what was wrong he told me letting the auto-updater update to the latest MAXON update fixed it for him.

    Hi Andre,

Love the Chamfer maker plugin! I wanted to ask if it’s possible to add imported spline profiles (for bevels) in a future version?

    Cheers!

      Thank you, Bill.

Yes, at quick glance it’s possible.
I can add it to my list of future possible improvements to be done whenever I start actively working on it again. :)

(sorry for the late reply btw, I was on holiday and had to catch up by sifting through a LOT of spam replies and yours got falsely identified)

Hey, Brendan. Please make sure you are using the latest service release of CINEMA 4D R15.
In the past there have been reports of crashes with outdated CINEMA 4D R15 versions that were fixed by letting the CINEMA 4D R15 auto-updater update to the latest version.

    Hi there,
thanks for the plugin its really good to be able animate bevels.
Is there an easy way to keep the textures stuck to the new edges ofter chamfering?
Any help would be greatly received.
    many thanks,
    Marty.

      Hi Marty,

Unfortunately not. Since the process of beveling adds new vertices/edges there is no easy way to automatically adjust and correlate UV data as well.

While it may be possible to create an algorithm specifically for adjusting UV coordinates for bevelled edges it is by no means a trivial task and not something that I have time to tackle at this point in time.

Hi André, just wanted to say thanks for your awesome plugin. Thanks a lot. I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. It’s one of my top 5 plugins which I would not want to miss.

    Regards,
    Sebastian

    Hey André,

This plugin is damn well amazing! I can’t believe I haven’t found it until now. It solves (at least partly) one of my biggest concerns in C4D – bevelling as a one way function. It’s brilliant work.

Very often I will need two or more different bevels on different edges on a model though. I’ve played around with putting chamfer makers as children to other chamfer makers on the same object with different selection sets on each. It _almost_ works but not quite. Is there any way of achieving this?

Due to the live edge selection feature I added some time ago I know that nested child-parent relations aren’t handled correctly in some cases.

There is also a corner case crash bug (that still needs fixing, unfortunately) connected to this.

Apparently it does still work. (I haven’t tested it but as the comment below would indicate it does work).

Hi, thanks for the great plugin! I’ve been using this in R16 and I’ve encountered 2 bugs:

1.) When loaded onto a MoText instance, C4D crashes completely.

2.) When undoing an operation (moving, resizing) on an object, the plugin seems to “forget” what it was doing, and the object reverts back to it’s original state, as if the plugin was disabled.

Beyond that, it’s been working very well.

Thanks for reporting these. There’s a couple of my projects such as this one and Meslo LG font that I do want to update but currently really don’t have time for because of university stuff and jobs.

(apologies for the late reply – looks like my manual WP update thrashed your comment but I was able to restore it)
